NEW BOOK ON DARTMOUTH LAUNCH 17 AUGUST

Dartmouth an Enchanted Place – Joslin Fiennes

We are really excited about this sumptuous, lavishly illustrated coffee table book which explores the artistic history and legacy of Dartmouth from Turner and Pissaro to Bridget McCrum and Andras Kaldor. Gorgeous photos of Dartmouth combine with historic images, many of them unusual and rare. Available in Dartmouth from 17 August before national publication in September, it can be viewed and ordered in advance from our bookshop.

The author, Joslin Fiennes will be signing the book at Dartmouth Community Bookshop from 2.15pm on Saturday 17 August

Published by Antique Collector’s Club in collaboration with Richard Webb Price £35.00

BOOKS AND MUSIC

It is the Music Festival in Dartmouth and the place is reverberating with the sounds of different bands. Star of the show for us was the Bookshop Band performing in the library. They write songs inspired by books and often perform in bookshops - go to their website www.thebookshopband.co.uk for future venues and to hear some of the songs they have written.

WORLD BOOK DAY

The Dartmouth Community Bookshop welcomed  more than 100 pupils from the Dartmouth Academy who came to the shop to exchange their vouchers for free books on World Book Day, March 7. They came in relays through the day, while they were working at the library, keeping the manager, Andrea Saunders and the volunteers busy all day. On Tuesday the shop had a visit from Kingswear Primary School pupils

World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. George’s Day.

'It was wonderful to watch the pupils select their books and look at all the other great childrens' books we have in the shop', said Andrea. 'We hope to see more youngsters bringing in their £1 vouchers, which are valid until March 24.'

Book time of year

2013 is here, and on these grey days of winter what better to do than curl up with a book! We have plenty of choice at the bookshop - lots of the latest fiction for adults and children. If we don't have the book you want in stock, we can order it for you to pick up in 24-48 hours.

Many of our customers want something different, maybe something out of print. We love to search for these special books, so come and see us.

Make 2013 the year of the local bookshop!
