SHOP EXTENSION UNDER WAY

We are progressing well with our project to extend the bookshop by covering the backyard. Many thanks to our customers for putting up with the noise and disruption! We also have gas works in Higher Street which have closed the road in March and huge holes are being dug in the street outside the shop!

WE ARE OPEN as usual through this. Our windowboxes are blooming with Spring and the shop is full of lovely books. Come and  see us.

DARTHMOUTH THROUGH TIME

A new book, Dartmouth Through Time, is on sale in the shop. Author Ginny Campbell has matched historic photos of Dartmouth with new ones she has taken from the same place, giving a fascinating idea of how times have changed - or not! She is pictured in the shop with manager, Andrea.

Marcia Willett signs books

Local author Marcia Willett called in at the bookshop today to sign copies of her books. Her latest title, in hardback, is Indian Summer, set in Devon, about friendship and love shadowed by hidden truths.

We have in stock signed copies of most of Marcia's books for you to enjoy, including The Sea Garden (Devon), Postcards from the Past (Cornwall), and a seasonal treat, The Christmas Angel - full of local places and characters.

SHOP WINS PATTERSON AWARD

Dartmouth Community Bookshop has been awarded a grant of £1500 by well-known international author James Patterson to create a new children’s space and new counter in the shop. This will be incorporated into the plans to expand the bookshop by roofing over the yard at the back, creating a bigger sales area, new staff facilities and storage. Work is due to start in January 2015.

Dartmouth Community Bookshop was one of 183 Independent bookshops to apply for a grant out of which 73 shops won awards for a total of £130,000 in what is the first tranche. Eligible bookshops were those with a dedicated children’s section.

Pictured are from left, Kathy Stansfield (Secretary) Andrea Saunders (Manager) and Tony Fyson (Chairman) of the bookshop, at the exsiting counter, which willbecome the new children's area.
